Hier ein paar Up's-and-Down's aus meiner Sicht:

Viel Spass beim Lesen.

2. traurigen Gemeinsamkeit fuehrt,

Naples-based aviation company survives post-9/11 turbulence to flourish as pilot school

NAPLES — Manuel Lercher learned all he could about flying in his native Austria.

“It all starts when I was 5 years old,” he said one day after a brief flight at Europe-American Aviation. “My mom said, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ And I said, ‘A pilot.’”

After performing flight simulations and learning the basics of piloting a single-engine aircraft, Lercher’s ground-training with a family friend and private instructor had reached the end of its usefulness.

So he and a friend came to the United States on student visas, found a place to live in Naples and began their in-air flight training at Europe-American Aviation.

It is a common story at the flight school’s two-story office just north of the General Aviation Terminal at Naples Municipal Airport, where about half of owner Carsten Sturm’s students come from overseas. It is stories like Lercher’s that are lending the school powerful word-of-mouth credibility in European countries, as well as helping the business increase 40 percent to 50 percent each year.

FAA selects Naples School to train Safety Inspectors

Pasted Graphic
The Federal Aviation Administration has selected
Europe-American Aviation to train its General Aviation Safety Inspectors with two
courses: Indoctrination and Light Twin Refresher. Technology is advancing so rapidly
that the FAA decided to incorporate specialized classes to keep their General Aviation
Safety Inspectors up-to-date on the latest aviation technology and equipment in the new
and modern aircraft. “We are honored that the FAA will do their training at our facility in
Naples,” states Mr. Mike Wilson, Chief Flight Instructor. Mr. Wilson continues, “It gives
Europe-American Aviation the opportunity to help shape the future of how the FAA will
standardize and train pilots of the future.” Many aircraft manufacturers like Diamond
are installing state of the art equipment in their airplanes. This advanced equipment
makes flying an airplane safer and easier than the older planes.

Europe-American Aviation will start the FAA training by offering two courses. The first
class is the General Aviation indoctrination course, a mandatory class for FAA Safety
Inspectors if they wish to continue as an FAA Safety Inspector. The second class is a
Multi-engine Light Twin Refresher Course (LTR). The FAA Safety Inspectors are
required to take this course every two years to maintain their FAA Safety Inspector
certification. The first course started on May 20th, 2008

Mr. Wilson notes, “Europe-American Aviation has brought in additional airplanes to
assist with the new classes and now incorporates fourteen aircraft, all which are less
than two years since manufactured.” In addition, for the first time in the United States, a
specialized Flight Training Device (FTD) by Diamond Simulation has been incorporated
in the training of the FAA Safety Inspector classes.

The FAA first noticed Europe-American Aviation a little more than a year ago when one
of their Safety Inspectors took personal training to advance his own knowledge of
technically advanced aircraft. He was so impressed with the training, equipment and
Europe-American Aviation’s operations, he communicated to the FAA that Europe-
American Aviation would be a great partner for training.

Diamond Aircraft responds to the Thielert Situation

Re: Thielert Situation Update

Over the past 10 days, Diamond senior management has been working diligently in an
attempt to achieve a workable solution for DA42 and DA40 tdi owners on parts support and
warranty. We had a face-to-face meeting with the insolvency administrator on Friday, May
9th, and several subsequent telephone conversations, the latest on Friday, May 16th.

Unfortunately, the results have not been positive, and we need to share with you what
clearly is a very disappointing update.

Overall, we have the impression that the insolvency administrator is not able to nor
interested in providing a path forward which makes current TAE engine operators and
owners a priority. Instead, we are left with no choice but to conclude that their agenda is at
odds with ours and yours, and that we will likely not get a workable solution from working
with TAE and the administrator until after the end of preliminary insolvency, presumably in
July.

Thielert Aircraft Engines (TAE) situation

Diamond TwinStar
On April 24th 2008 the manufacturer of Thielert Aircraft Engines (TAE) opened preliminary bankruptcy proceedings and a lawyer was appointed as trustee to manage the company.

Operating under similar protection as Chapter 11 here in the USA, Thielert discontinued all guarantees given to customers regarding Warranty for Thielert engines as of May 15th 2008.

The Diamond Twin Star DA42 operates two Thielert engines. These engines have life limited parts (e.g. Gearbox, clutch, pressure pumps and others) that have to be replaced at certain intervals. These parts were so far covered under warranty. The withdrawal of Thielert’s warranty promise means that the operating cost of the DA42 has increased by up to app. $200.00 per hour (!)

In order to cover at least a part of these increased costs, we regret to announce the following measures which are in effect immediately:

• The price for the DA42 will be $485.00 per hour

This new price covers the fuel surcharge (until further notice) in other words – no fuel surcharge for DA42’s

Although this drastic increase will help to cover a part of the additional costs, there remains some uncertainty of Thielert’s actual ability to deliver parts when they will be needed. As a consequence, we need to make sure that we use the available engine hours as efficient for our customers training purposes as possible. Therefore, the following restrictions apply until further notice:

• We cannot offer Checkouts on the DA42’s
• We cannot allow Rentals on the DA42’s
• We will not offer initial Multi engine training (e.g. Commercial ME)
• We will not offer Time-building flights in Twin Star aircraft

This also affects the Multi engine portion of our Cleared Direct program

• We reserve the right to evaluate, alter and deny any DA42 flight, based solely on our internal priorities, even on short notice.

We are evaluating alternative solutions to this situation and hope that these restrictions can soon be reduced or removed, based on open decisions from the manufacturers involved.

Until then we appreciate your understanding.

Europe-American enters market for Career Pilot Training

With CLEARED DIRECT™ the world’s first Diamond Brilliance Flight CenterTM launches the first all Glass cockpit Career Pilot Program.

Just over one year ago, Europe-American Aviation embraced the future by joining forces with Diamond Aircraft Industries to become the worldwide first Diamond Brilliance Flight Center™. Europe-Americans fleet now exclusively features Diamond’s complete line-up of Technologically Advanced Aircraft (TAA) and Diamond Simulation’s Level 5 Flight Training Device (FTD).

“Our strategy was simple and straight forward” states Carsten Sturm, President and CEO of Europe-American Aviation “offer the best equipment in terms of training efficiency, safety and technology and customers will appreciate it.”

Customers from all over the United States and Europe embraced Europe-American Aviation’s offer during the last year. Mr. Sturm states further: “Our safety record is spotless, students learn faster and the check ride pass-rate is excellent. Despite rising fuel prices the more efficient Diamond aircraft allowed us to avoid fuel surcharges. All these are direct and measurable advantages for our flight students. The bottom-line for our customers is that they train with state-of-the-art equipment in a safe environment while enjoying very competitive prices.”

This success encouraged Europe-American Aviation to make the next logical step and tailor an offer to the aspiring Career Pilot in a time when the Airlines all over the world are desperately looking for adequately trained pilots. With CLEARED DIRECT™ Europe-American Aviation launches the first all Glass cockpit Ab Initio Career Pilot Program. The first class will start on November, 2nd 2007 and enrollment has begun. The program is customized in a way that future pilots will gain up to 100 hours Multi engine experience, all Glass cockpit / EFIS.

This puts the CLEARED DIRECT™ graduates in the ideal position for their next career step. Says Carsten Sturm: “As a matter of fact, every Airline recruiter we talked to so far has shown great interest in the CLEARED DIRECT™ program and its future graduates.”

Shawn Scott, Manager of Training Development at Europe-American Aviation explains further details of CLEARED DIRECT™: “This program is tailored for those pilots who want to make a career out of flying. It is designed around our Technologically Advanced Diamond Aircraft to give the maximum EFIS time and Multi-Engine time for a new pilot. Our program is unique in that you train
in Glass cockpit / EFIS equipped aircraft from the very first hour and gather experience that is highly desired in today’s professional market. Our goal from the beginning was to provide the highest quality training possible to make our graduates more competitive in
a job interview.”

Europe-American Aviation’s CLEARED DIRECT™ program offers every flight student a unique way to build a solid foundation for his or her career as a professional pilot.

Europe-American states great success of D-JET Mock-up event

d-jetrollout
Over two hundred people attended the D-Jet Mock-up presentation at Europe-American Aviation on October 29, 2006. Owner and President Carsten Sturm and Premier Aircraft Senior Vice President Art Spengler state this as an enormous success. Directly after the event, Europe-American, a flight school with 10 Diamond aircraft and Premier Aircraft Sales a distributor of Diamond aircraft announced a positive impact on their business.

Chief Flight Instructor earns prestigious 'Master' title

bruce.JPG
On October 06, Bruce Batelaan, Chief Flight Instructor with Europe-American Aviation proudly received his Master CFI title. This title is recognized by the FAA and represents his extraordinary skills and ongoing commitment to provide high quality training. The flight school honored his latest accomplishment by awarding him with the quarterly CFI Trophy for outstanding performance.

Diamond Simulation achieves certification by the FAA!

DE_Sim_Klein
The first and so far only DA42 FTD (Flight Training Device) located in the USA has now been certified by the FAA. This Level 5 FTD is located at Europe-American Aviation, a Diamond Brilliance Flight Center in Naples, Florida.

The simulator with a real copy of a DA42 cockpit is manufactured by Diamond Simulation and completes Europe-American's entire fleet of Diamond Aircraft. The certification was an important step to offer a more flexible and effective training to the students. Implementing a Flight Training Device into the flight instruction gives a lot of advantages to the customers. In this kind of environment a student trains much better then in just a generic one-size-fits-all cockpit. He can master the basics and more importantly train for unusual and dangerous emergency situations. This leads to higher motivation and subsequently to better training results. In addition, as weather is no longer a factor and down time for maintenance is negligible, the training is much more flexible.

Europe-American Aviation notices a remarkable trend for more Multi Engine Training since they became the worldwide first Diamond Brilliance Flight Center in June 2006. “Compared to the last year, I have given more than double the instruction time for Multi Engine training versus that of Single Engine Training” states Bruce Batelaan, Chief Flight Instructor at Europe-American Aviation who also holds a title as Master CFI. Due to the increased demand of Multi Engine Training, Europe-American Aviation just recently enlarged their fleet by adding a third Diamond DA42 Twin Star, in addition to their fleet of 10 Diamond Single engine aircraft!
